The gayest comic I ever read was a Captain America issue from around 1971 ( about # 140). The book was split into two stories, one by the regular artist with the regular hero tone, and another drawn by Gray Morrow, who was more of a newspaper strip artist. The strip by Morrow had an embarrassing soap opera feel to it in both the words and images. The story was about Cap’s partner, the Falcon, dating a an anti-establishment type girl and Cap’s obsession with that. He spys on them thinking, “What does he see in her?” with a bit too much jealousy. It comes off like a creepy stalker romance comic.
