zomng, I see the box you’re talking about, and I realize that that’s very close to where the device is planted, but I’m pretty sure that’s not the device itself. It may be a marker, but the device would have to be underground. It explodes outward, so it wouldn’t move the dirt like that if it was lying on the dirt over there.

agree with kurayami…explosion would indicate that the device was buried underground. With that force and size underground, I would think that you would have seen a fire ball and more destruction if it were sitting on the top of the road.
they are trying to hide them better in the road and cover with asphalt. the box probably was a marker and the bomber was at an angle where it looked like the vehicle was over the area of impact or kill zone.

It appears to have been buried too deep, or rather under too thick and soft a section of asphalt, because it really was rather slow and non-violent (as explosions go). It wasn’t really a miss, it just was too contained, so instead of a blast effect with a shockwave and shrapnel, you just get a scary, giddy feeling that something that could of torn your limbs off didn’t. Even on top of it they’d have just been lifted up. Less contained, and both trucks could’ve been taken out. Very lucky crew. Definitly a “holy shit” moment.

it was planted way to the side also.. if that was in the middle then it could of been alot worse.
It was buried too deep or there weren’t enough explosives. At least we kicked al Qaeda’s ass so far north they made their last stand in Mosul 2 months ago and we forced them out. Now they’re forced to move back into Afghanistan.

yeah, burid too deep, even if the h2v wouls have been directla over it, i don’t think much damage would have been done.
plus i think the box was a marker, but not the ied.
ps: mike you know they don’t really share a border, right? infact those al queda bastards only came to irak after the us troops…
