at least you dont have to wash dishes or use paper plates. though i dont use a plate anyway. most of the time i just pick up a piece and eat it. but im just one person. what i do doesnt count for everyone.
WTF? The only thing new about this is the extra perforations, and I’ll admit that part is kinda cool (although I have made plates from the lid in the past - I just had to use scissors).
Many pizza boxes are made from post consumer fiber, i.e., recycled cardboard, and printed with non-toxic (vegetable based) inks, and have been for years. Regardless of that, many recycling plants still won’t accept pizza boxes because the oils from the food render the fibers useless for recycling with today’s technology - so this box would be no different, and certainly wouldn’t be any “greener” than anything else already in use. Even without recycling though, a cardboard box in a landfill breaks down rather nicely on its own - bury one in your backyard, and then see if you can find it after a couple of months.
Hype and marketing. That’s what being “Green” is really all about.
Considering that those extra perforations required additional time in production, this box actually consumed more electricity than your “average” pizza box. You do the math.
yea it might take more energy but you have to consider the fact that the amount of cardboard recycled (not buying paper plates to use or using tin foil etc) will cancel out that cost. besides, how much electricity can it possibly take to make perforations.
Who uses paper plates? I don’t. Does that make me “green?” I will use a napkin (probably of post consumer content too) - as both a “plate” AND to wipe my big, filthy mouth with, but I didn’t see those in this box. BTW: Most paper plates break down the same way that the cardboard does.
As for the electrical use, you have missed the big picture:
“how much electricity can it possibly take to make perforations”
More than it takes not to. In other words, a box made without these extra perforations spends less time in production and therefore, uses less electricity.
You have to think in terms of scale:
Sure, the energy use for one box is inconsequential, but put that on a mass production level of hundreds of thousands/millions of boxes and now you’re talking real consumption.
Cripes. Don’t they teach critical thinking in schools anymore, or is it all just this whitewashed, sanitized, politically correct, bullshit?
Understand where I’m coming from though:
I don’t give a crap how much they perforate their boxes. Perforate them until they disappear if you want to. I’m just pointing out the utter hypocrisy and hyperbole of this so called “green” theory in general, and this company’s “green” marketing spiel in particular.
Just because YOU don’t use paper plates does not mean that everybody else doesn’t. Large families can go through quite a few in a very short period of time, due to the hassle of dishwashing.
In general, this product does not seem to aim to be green in the sense that it saves far more energy and CO2 emissions than other pizza boxes, it aims to be efficient and get as much use out of as little material as possible.
Don’t get me wrong, I do agree that a good portion of the “Green” movement is just businesses latching onto the social movement. But you’re implying that the movement as a whole is a huge load of shit when several “Green” programs have been shown to have great positive benefit (such as building efficiency, solar and wind power, etc.)
Just because YOU use paper plates, and may come from a large family, doesn’t mean that everyone else does. But you make a good point about not washing dishes, which probably isn’t very “green” either.
Regarding the efficiency of material use though, I can’t agree. It’s the same amount of cardboard regardless of how it’s used. This too brings up a good point: Too fucking much nit-picking and micro-management. Can’t people just eat a damn pizza anymore?
I’m not implying that the “movement” as a whole is a huge load of shit. I’m saying out loud that “IT’S A HUGE LOAD OF SHIT!”
Building efficiency isn’t a “green” program. It’s a matter of market economics. As for solar and wind power (I don’t want to know what qualifies as “etc.”), they have yet to provide a single positive benefit. They’re both extremely inefficient for a number of reasons, not the least of which would be practical application design.
The most efficient method of producing power that exists under today’s technology is nuclear fission, but say the word “nuclear,” and the “Greenies” run and hide in the forest. The current technology with the most promise, and steadily advancing progress, is Hydrogen Fuel Cells. The wind idea will be seen for what it is (worthless), and eventually be abandoned. We may someday figure out a viable method of not only utilizing the power from our Primary, but actually controlling it in some fashion (thank Isaac Asimov for planting that seed in my head). but we’re a long, long way from that.
Anyone ever heard of plates that you wash and use over again??? Large families especially should figure out what those are and buy some. In the end it will cost your family and the environment so much less.
[...] box of the future Kind of interesting, not that anyone on this forum would order in a pizza The pizza box of the future is here __________________ Sharpei Diem…..Seize the wrinkle [...]
this is a smart idea but it is not GREEN at all.
the only way this could be considered green is if your common plates you use are paper. most people use actual plates.
Straight out of Bill Nye the Science guy’s mind. This is blasphemy! Can you trust this? What about the pizza?! I find it hard to believe that this non-italian pizza box can be trusted to care for a beloved pie. I’ll take this shit to Washington dammit and let my voice be heard! Must be the same guys who came up with velcro…….damn you….
Well in Ontario of Canada we have a green bin system. Basically your greasy pizza boxes are put into this bin and the bin goes to a composting center. Instead of the recycling center. And where I live they only collect garbage once every 2 weeks. And only 2 garbage bags are allowed or a total of 6 grocery bags.
Composting: Organic breakdown. Pizza boxes do it nicely. I don’t know why there seem to be so many municipalities not capable of that yet. Could be a space problem. Do you know how big Ontario’s compost site is?
I heard of a similar system in Sweden (from a Swede). There, they had nothing but trouble with people dumping their non-recyclables, i.e., garbage, into/around/on the bins at the recycling plant and elsewhere. How’s that working out in Ontario? How long has that system been in place? 1 bag of garbage per week? That’s cool if it can be done. Sounds like it can once your recycling capabilities are broadened. Do they do all metals and all plastics too? I’ll have to check into that. Sounds interesting.
Thanks for the intelligent post (really). I got more out of it than the actual video.
I can confirm that we do have composting in Sweden, some people do it themselves (use composts) as it breaks down to some really great earth to grow in if you have a small garden patch etc. Some municipalitys have separate garbage for composting material and “normal” trash, where they take the compostable material to a plant where it can be broken down into gas. The gas is then used to run buses and also burned into energy for hot water plants or maybe even electricity.
And of course, everyone recycles paper, plastic, glass, metal, etc. We have special stations for that.
So yeah, garbage collection doesn’t happen very often here either. Once a week maximum.
Also I can’t figure out what’s “green” about the pizza box. If you really want to help the environment you eat less meat (and pizza) as meat takes loads and loads of energy and resources to produce, and also leads to a lot of CO2 emissions (non climate friendly). We’re already using more resources than the earth can provide us with, and where that leads is not really a tough question.
fuck the environment, what a load of shit all this save the earth crap. A fucking “green” pizza box? give me a break. We are not hurting the earth, we are poisoning ourselves, once we are all dead the earth will revert to normal and be fine. oh yeah, fuck swine flu also.
OH! and why wud there be left over pizza if an american child had the pizza? there wudnt be! useless product AND they wud probs eat the box aswell coz the pizza wudnt be enuff for them,, congratulations america.. u r now INGENIOUS!…not
might as well learn how to cut it in the same places the tear lines are. i know people wont use this soon enough but i like it so ill just use scissors lol
first!
gayyy
Brilliant idea. I definitely support this idea and design.
Frickin’ hippies and their frickin’ green boxes.
I WUD NEVER EAT A COLD PIZZA AND NEVER HAVE DONE, SO THAT FUCKED UP THAT IDEA DIDNT IT?
ofcourse it did. seeing as you alone were their target consumer, and you didn’t like it, they may aswell go hang themselves
I don’t understand. Why do you have to eat cold pizza? Why can’t you warm up left-over pizza in the microwave? PLUS, cold pizza is the shizznit!
i also assume you’ve never used a microwave and never will.
Stop talking. Cold pizza is pretty much the best food known to mankind.
Hot or Cold Pizza is always good to me.
meh
That is pretty good! but doesnt it make it harder to recycle with so much pizza juices on it?
at least you dont have to wash dishes or use paper plates. though i dont use a plate anyway. most of the time i just pick up a piece and eat it. but im just one person. what i do doesnt count for everyone.
I say we hit it and quit it. IE move to mars.
Hell ya, Mars here we come!
Thats a pretty good box for recycling

Washing dishes is very “green.” Especially if you wait until the dishwasher is full and then run it.

Unlimited recycling and green bins tho.
Green bin is for everything compostable.
