I believe BK’s warning to NOT post racist comments is in large part a joke to everyone on the boards.

The white guy was purposely dressed in a ‘hip hop’ style as well. If you watched the entire video, the narrarator even specifically mentioned this.

The white guy was not really dressed in a “hip hop” style. When the narrator said that they were both similarly dressed, I disagreed. The white guy looked like a construction worker and his shirt was tighter. The black guy had his pants sagging and had more loose clothing.
They need to re-do this experiment, and have the two guys dressed in neutral clothing…no backwards hat or pants sagging.

As seen by the older man towards the end of the video (he was going take take the African American boy’s stuff) every person has a different reaction. It is hard, if not impossible, to get a stable reaction to an experiment like this, since the subjects in question (the pedestrians) were all different. Thus, different reactions. The older man SAYS he wouldn’t have reacted differently, but would he? We don’t know and probably can’t find out. Their theory has been proven true with two variables. But if we really wanted to see solid proof, it requires only one.

Second, the white guy is doing it in the sun, the black guy in the shade. I honestly think that makes a difference. In the shade it simply seems more sneaky than in the sun.

There’s more to it than that:
1) Blacks who commit a crime are more likely to be prosecuted and found guilty for a given than whites who commit the same crime, and tend to receive more jail time for the same crime, mostly due to racism. This is especially true for drug charges.
2) Blacks tend to be poorer than whites, and poor people of any race are more likely to commit crimes than the rich. Also, the rich and middle-class are more likely to get off, because they can pay for better legal defense, and tend to be treated more kindly by judges.

1) the experiment has NOTHING to do with how many blacks commit crimes or are in jails (and yes, it is undoubtedly true that in America, blacks have a higher crime rate than other ethnicities, this is empirical data)
2) the experiment is about the ungrounded racial judgments that manifests itself in our subconscious. ie: through an indifferent media, patriarchal and racist language (ie: always use ‘he’ ‘man’ and ‘white’ is good ‘black’ is evil)
3) the point of the experiment is to give a live demonstration of this subconscious discrimination and how it controls people’s judgments. It is because of this, many people of different ethnicity may have been wrongly trialled, or just plain oppressed by a white-dominated society to the point where they do not have an equal opportunity

This subject really gets to me. Political correctness says that we’re not supposed to think any differently of someone based on their race, as if we’re all equal in the way we act.
The problem with this thinking is that each race DOES act differently on average. Like it or not, there are about 6 times as many blacks in prison as there are whites. …and there are about 6 times as many whites in this country as blacks! That means if you’re black, you’re 36 times more likely to be in jail than if you’re white!
I know that there is incarceration bias in the system, but there’s no way it accounts for a 36:1 ratio. Let’s be generous and give the bias a 3:1 ratio, meaning that our messed up system is 3 times more likely to give a black man a long prison sentence than a white man. That still leaves a 12:1 final ratio after the bias is applied.
When we look at a black kid messing with a locked bike and we instinctively think that he’s committing a crime, it’s not necessarily because we’re racist. The statistics show that a black man is many, many times more likely to be committing a crime at any moment than a white man.
i doubt it that these people walk around with statistics like that in mind…but what the heck why not ?

while these studies are interesting, they are statistically inaccurate. in order to prove the existence of a condition in scenario 1 and the non-existence of that condition in scenario 2, you have to expose your test subjects to *both* scenarios. who’s to say, those that got angry over the black guy wouldn’t do the same for the white guy. i know *i* would, because i’ve had my bike stolen before.
