This man pretended to have a gun and said he would shoot the dog if they let it loose on him. He knew this: the moment the cops realized he didn’t have a gun, they would release the dogs on him. That’s what life is like for a black man in Compton.
This man didn’t want to have his face torn off by attack dogs while thirty cops sat back and watched. He decided he would rather die than be treated like this.

I feel despite him having a fear of getting bit by the dog he should’ve never threantened the shreiffs with the “threat of killing” one of their fellow police officers especially when he only had a sandle when they let loose the dog well fuck it ….. it wasn’t me. THIS VIDEO IS PROPOGANDA BULLSHIT! Someone edited it to make it seem worse than it really was. Watch the few seconds before and after the guy gets shot. 1-2 seconds before he gets shot, the audio makes it sound like the police officers have opened fire for no apparent reason… But you can’t see any rounds hitting the building!!! You don’t see any rounds hitting the building until the guy jumps up. The guy doesn’t even flinch when the first sounds of supposed gunfire begins. Someone has definitely edited the audio. If you had the real audio, the situation makes more sense.
So here’s what REALLY happened- The guy claims he has a gun several times. (This is compton, why would you not believe him.) He threatens to shoot both the cops and dogs if they are sent after him. As things escalate, one of the dog handlers decides to send in his dog AS NON DEADLY FORCE. Here’s the problem- the guy is surrounded probably by 15-20 cops, all with their guns drawn. Now ignoring the audio, and watching the video, you see the guy jump up as the dog is sent in. If you are a cop with your eyes glued to the sites of your gun and you see the guy JUMP UP, then you are going to pull your trigger. The cops who had their guns trained on the guy didn’t know if he was jumping up to just start opening fire. They had to shoot enough times to completely immobilize him, because even when shot, he would have still been able to get off a couple of rounds.
So it’s not like the cops decide to shoot him and then also send in the dog into the line of fire at the same time. Again, disregard the audio- A cop sends in his dog, the rest of the cops are trained on the guy with their guns. Suddenly the guy jumps (because of the dog), and this is where you see when the gun fire REALLY STARTS. The cops open fire because they have tunneled vision in looking through there sights. They didn’t think the guy was jumping up because of the dog, for all they knew, he was jumping up to open fire. Take 15-20 cops firing 3-4 rounds and that’s a lot of bullets. But it’s really irrelevant. If you are shooting to kill, it doesn’t matter how many rounds you use. If you are shooting to kill and only shoot 1 round and the guy is hit but is able to fire back and kill 2-3 other people before he dies, then this is wasteful.
Whoever edited this video and made is sound like the gunfire starts before it really did, should be arrested for inciting violence. Changing the audio changes the whole scenario.
it doesn’t bother me he was shot, … from my point of view, cops around you, guns pointed, and you have a flip flop… its time to drop the tough guy act and assume the position… if he would have turned around, faced the wall, put his hands on it and shown them as empty, no dogs, … he’d probably gotten a good arm twisting and thrown around (because cops are dicks) but not shot. The thing that bothers me the most is the 2 minutes and what feels like eternity after he’s been shot where no one runs up to secure him, no one calls for a ambulance, no one tries to do anything….. the stand around saying “fuck” and “shit” …

What killed this man and this dog was one thing…fear. Fear the cops would shoot and not do their job, fear the dogs would come get him and fear on the cops part that he meant what he said.
There was no evidence that the cops would shoot if he surrendered, and no evidence that they would call the dogs on him if he didn’t surrender.
This man was an idiot, and so were the cops for being such cowards. It’s called, get thee behind the car…and one shot to the shoulder or leg would have sufficed.

I don’t think this had anything to do with racism, but I could be wrong. We don’t know. We would somehow have to find the first cop to shoot and have him psychoanalyzed to figure this out.
I agree with Syber bout the tasers and beanbags. With 30 cops, you’d think one of them should have been equipped with them. This could have saved the man’s life (however stupid he was). However, assuming there were no non-lethals on site (besides the dog, which was a stupid idea), this was a bad situation.
My advice to the cops would be for all of them to fall back and let a small group of the most experienced stay with their guns drawn.
Also, about the dog. I am not an animal rights activist by any means, and if it had been any old dog, I wouldn’t care if they filled it with as many hole as they guy, but these are highly-trained, very expensive police dogs we’re talking about. There are more tax dollars tied up in that dog than two police cruisers. It matters.
Also, if this video was doctored like the other guy said, that guy that did it ought to be shot 81 times as well. People like that have no business sharing the same air as the rest of us.
I just watched it a couple more times, and it seems clear the audio was pushed forward by about a second, making it look much worse than it was. (he drew his weapon/flip-flop before they fired)

As a law enforcement officer myself, I think the outcome would have been the same had the poor fellow in the video had been white, asian, canadian, female, etc. As for this particular video, I came across one that has an extra 3 mins or so of footage than the ebaums one, which for the record is clearly edited. Dude was clearly either mental or stupid, obviously both. As for the Sheriffs, poor communication and “GUN CONTROL” led to this incident. I have a feeling some heads were rolled but not all after this incident. Yes its an easy excuse and an acceptable cop out to someone with a low IQ. But I know at least 3 things should have happened here first before this man was murdered.
1. The Police should have taken cover behind their Vehicle, a tree, a Truck anything that would have shielded them in case this guy had a gun. This pre-caution would have removed the threat of danger significantly IF one existed.
2. Then before the first shot was fired by police they should have waited to at least see a gun. Why is the Police yelling put the gun down and there is no gun? I’ll tell you why, because they know cameras are rolling and it makes someone with a low IQ think Oh my goodness that guy is crazy, why don’t he drop the gun? Duh maybe because he doesn’t have one. Look at the guy’s mouth and watch the audio he is not saying what you are hearing. This looks like the video the police may have wanted to use in court.
3. How do the police know this guy is not mentally ill? Why did the police shoot the dog? We understand the purpose for using dogs and robots in dangerous situations so when the dog went in they should have waited to see if the dog was able to get the situation under control, but instead shots were fired before the dog even got to the man. This is not even a case of being scared, or a case of self-defense this is a case of shoot the Black guy.
