Hell has frozen over
i hope everyone understands that that cochlear implant is stealing the deaf culture from him and adapting him to the “normal” world. in my opinion thsi is completely wrong and my question is.. why can we be unique?
shut up, he will be happier that way
I’m sorry. What did you say?
he’ll be happier? look up the percentage of cochlear implants that actually work hell just learn to hate them and take it off
Just because the kid has a cochlear implant doesnt mean its the end all for what culture he associates with coda. I know several individuals (from both sides of the spectrum) that can find, with just about any form of technology that aids us, there can be a good and bad aspect to it. Yes, the child will always remember being part of the “hearing” world during his younger years, but that doesn’t mean its going to ruin his life by what you are making it sound like. In fact, if you have an open mind on the matter, and this is totally the kid’s choice later in life, why can’t he associate and be friends with both sides of the spectrum? Sure, he may be ostracized by those diehard Deaf individuals, but like any die hards on the spectrum, can be a little too closed minded if you ask me. As for your the percentage of CIs that work, yes, in your terms, hearing will sound more artificial and possibly annoying (if an adult gets it later in life), but we are speaking of a kid whose experience in spoken language is limited. Also, it would either be this or an auditory brainstem implant, but this technology is a little less studied than CIs or high powered HAs.
dnt even begin to read you long fucking comment i think we can agree that the baby can hear hoo fucking ray
I dunno Coda…the kid looked pretty psyched that he could hear his mom’s voice.
I must say, that as a deaf girl who couldn’t really hear until she was 11 with the use of a Bone Anchored Hearing Aid (another implant-type) that he is not having some sort of identity or culture taken away from him no more than I was.
He has been given the opportunity to integrate with society a lot easier and he is at the age where language and speech development shouldn’t be too far affected.
I happily call myself part of the deaf community (as I am certainly deaf without my hearing aid still) and I cannot stand militant deaf people, or any other militant group. Get a life.
What is wrong is when some people of the deaf community try to shame people who are not happy with their (or their children’s) disability into not getting help for it. No one is forcing you, as an individual, to get an implant and become a part of the beautiful world of sound. You can be as unique as you wanna be. But no disability “culture” is worth having so many career doors slammed in your face. No disability “culture” is worth growing up being bullied or shunned. No disability “culture” is worth not being able to hear the beauty of music or the ocean waves, or hear danger (smoke alarms, thunder, car horns, etc) while you still have a chance to react. “Normies” understand this. They know what you are missing and they wouldn’t wish it on anyone, especially not their child.
If you feel the need to draw strength from your disability and embrace it; if you feel the need to feel you are unique and beautiful because of it, then go ahead. But a child with a cochlear implant is being robbed of nothing substantial and is being given something precious. That is reality and no, I won’t sugarcoat it to make it more palatable.
did anyone else notice at the very beginning, like :01, when she is looking back at someone she looks like a total milf
This is a technology miracle video, Dank…no milfing allowed.
but the milf in is in plain view… what do we do now???…WHAT THE HELL DO WE DO NOW?!?!?!
Jennay! Jennay! Is that you Jennay?
bout time technology is used for the good of the human race
Almost a week with no updates… FBK,
Amazing, very heartwarming
The truth is most deaf and hard-of-hearing people get implants and hate them. It is something forced upon them by the hearing community to try and conform them. Rarely does it lead to understanding of language it is just sound, usually horrifyingly loud nonsensical sound. You can call if heart warming but in reality it could lead to tons of problems for this child down the road.
