All religions have blood on their hands in the past, that does not mean we shouldn’t believe in something. There is a fine line with all this. I’ve personally seen very “rational” human beings become religious, and it’s when they, in a series of events taking however long, became wise. Just keep the possibility open is all I’m saying.

BUT, there’s a catch to it. Not all Muslims are extremists or hold the view that their beliefs should reign over those of others. These are the Muslims who have adapted themselves, like in all other religions, to modern thinking and by modern I do not mean immoral. Also, religion has generally been used as a political agenda to wage war because I hold the opinion that religion tends to be a sentimental issue among masses and thus to mobilize them into a movement, it serves as an easy excuse, misused by those responsible for governing the masses. Recall holy wars that botched the name of Christianity. Ultimately, religion becomes one man’s propaganda for dispute that ends up engulfing nations.
On the count of Jews not destroying people (no offence meant) the Israeli conflict speaks for itself. As far as I know that land DOES belong to the Arabs but then again my knowledge may be contested and is indeed limited in relation to the antecedents of the matter.
I really liked what she said, and I think the one winning point over all is when she made the parallel to the Jews.

I also agree with her, however, all the people who say that it is a minority of extremists: Yes, this is true, those who actually commit these horrible acts are a minority, but it is the majority who empowers them. Extremists Muslims and Christians alike are all given the power they have by the vast, silent majority behind them. Every Muslim or Christian who sits by and watches all of this happening, and does nothing to attempt to stop it, even it their help is in the most meager of ways is just as complicit in the crimes as those pulling the triggers. Just because we are not extremists does not excuse us from supporting the ideologies that give them their power. If every Muslim renounces the extremists and does what they can to stop them, they will be marginalized, and the world will be a better place for it.

all i can think of is why, we westerners are discussing a topic with our full belly because of the crisps and the stuffed fridge, behind our desks, some at work, some at home or school, brabbeling about how come they dont see that we are the same.
True, alot of people are getting better in there lives and they are getting healthier (except of the Obesitas States of America) but dont forget, these people dont consider them selves as equal YET. The more desperate (looney) ones are more easy to get fired up. They are jeleaous of our way of living in wealth.

oh, come on. that is not the truth, at all. that’s a partial side of the truth. she idealizes western society, but that society also lacks of respect for their people or other different cultures. she’d question how many Muslim countries have invaded Catholic countries, with libertarian arguments, but actually killing civilians, stealing the natural resources, and not solving anything. The creation of Israel is just another clear example that while she is right about the faults of Muslim countries, not everything is perfect in the rest of the World.
Wow… Respect. Perhaps a little of this kind of enlightenment would be good for Western extremists as well…

For those of you who care about human rights, this woman lives in the USA, supports the right wing fanatics for all the wars that they waged, and plan to wage, and makes a living by telling them what they want to hear about Arabs and muslims.

As for the source of the video, it comes from MEMRI; MEMRI’s staff of seven included three who had formerly served in Military Intelligence in the Israeli Defense Forces. I am inclined to agree with Muhammad. I would like to have heard the entire debate. Still, whatever the source, she makes a hell of a good argument. If the Arabs would roll up their sleeves and do something positive instead of whining and blaming everybody else for their plight, they would be a lot better off and a lot more respected.

“She is a heretic!”, “the site’s founders had ties with Isreali intelligence!”, and “they did it, too!” are not rational responses. They are emotional, almost childish reactions used to dismiss her arguments rather than respond to them. This is the very sort of thought process that is at issue — a non-rational, religious intolerance of other belief systems which is used to justify violence and murder for political purposes.
The American bombing of Iraq and most of the early Isreali terrorism were done for reasoned political purposes (whether or not you agree with the reasoning). They were not (with the exception of some Isrealis then and now) done for or justified by religious zeal.
It is also true that Christianity has gone through its irrational episodes (such as the Crusades and the Inquisition) which today are variously viewed as embarrassing, troubling, or applalling. This is because Christianity went through an Age of Reason and matured into societies based on tolerance, rational discourse, and mututal secular interests. The question is whether Islam (Moslems in general and Arabs in particular) will do the same or will continue to encourage their fundamentalists on a path of intolerance and violence.
That is really what she is talking about. And it deserves thoughtful and rational responses, not emotional or dismissive ones.

Wow, this was on Al-Jazeera too. This woman’s argument goes pretty heavily against the agenda of that network. I’m glad the man’s main response was “if you’re a heretic there’s no point in even rebuking you”. Way to be tolerant. If only more people held her view in the Arab countries.

I am amazed at the stupidity of mankind. There once was a comic i read called the history of religion. A caveman was praying to a rock, another man asked why, the caveman said it was sacred. The other man began to say that it was just an ordinary rock but before he could finish the caveman began killing him with the rock screaming”non believer heretic!” After the poor man is dead the caveman resumes praying explaining to the rock that the man was an infidel and deserved his fate.
This is the basic reaction we see in middle eastern Muslim extremists, while it is not without pointing out that almost all religions have done this it is still a valid assertion to say that Muslims refuse to accept the ways of the changing world.
Blasting buildings and people into rubble is a great way to bring the world back to the stone age and back to their way of thinking, only problem is ideas are harder to blow up than buildings and people.

From what I am led to believe (and I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong) is that the scriptures/book of Muslim beliefs is that anyone who does not believe, does not deserve to live. And it is the responsability of the committed Muslim to enforce the belief or kill those who won’t believe.
Every religion has followers of various extents, eg Christian, can go to church, pray at home, or just pray when need guidance. I am sure that Muslims are the same. But the notion that a ‘religion’ to follow at any level orders it’s followers to kill the non-believers is a threat. What happens when immigration allows more and more religious rules to be integrated into laws?
Here in Australia, we had a Muslim lady go through court to legally be allowed to have her face covered for her drivers licence photo. What form of identification is that? Those who immigrate must adapt, or choose to stay in their own country.
Anyway, I was contemplating becoming an athiest but with this credit crisis, I didn’t want to be part of a non-prophet organisation.
