Japanese actor Koichi Yamadera’s performs a version of Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. Some people think it was racist of him to paint his face black while others think it was a great tribute to Armstrong. What’s your opinion?

First!
it is a good tribute even if it does seem like he makes fun of him a bit.
nice
what an asshole.
Japanese people were always rude.
If this was a tribute they failed.
heh…”they’re reeree saying”
i find this extremely racist
this is photoshoped… this guy doesnt sing this… playback + photoshop CS4
not racist at all! very funny! great tribute! all he needed to do was just start picking some cotton and i wouldn’t of been able to tell the difference between him being japenese and the real louis armstrong!
How sad … I’m reporting this to the Obama
song was good but he made him self look like a jackass while doing it
=RACIST
you guys think it is racist, but when Robert Downey Jr. does it, it is comedy…and ESP…ever been to Japan? I think not, one of the most polite and considerate societies remaining in the world.
Louis Armstrong WAS black. It’s not a insult to paint yourself black. He did include a bit of a comedy routine in it, but it was to showcase some of his talents. The trumpet part was almost funny. It was still a decent tribute. It wasn’t insulting. The song wasn’t butchered, he didn’t make anything dumb. He went up there and presented a good song, sang it well, and made people laugh at the same time. He was a bit of a jackass, but that’s fine. He never disrespected the singer or the song, in my opinion.
I FIND IT BOTH
“…say how do you doerrr”
That… that part was comedy right thar!
It was shit. And racist.
Plus, he very much exagirated the facial expressions.
Deezy’s right on about Japan. That was a tribute and I guarantee you that Jap wasn’t making fun of Louis. They’re insanely respectful and polite, especially to their elders. Dude was just just a clueless douche who could sing like LA. I wonder if they know what they’re singing or if they’ve just memorized foreign words?
I wonder if anyone would bitch about racism if he would wear a blond wig and cover something from ABBA…o_0
I dont think it was rasict at all.. I mean it was kinda fun to watch him. And just because hes painting himself black and making a face on the stage doesnt mean that he thinks all the blacks have a dumb face…
hes just imitating him…
Its like ahmed the dead terrorist: some people say its rasict but it aint
Its good to see blacks still have no problem playing the race card when it suits them.. way to go!
OMG! this gut needs to be killed. Fucking asshole
OMG! this gut needs to be killed. Fucking asshole
you can still impersonate an american legend without acting like a jackass.
this guy should be slapped
it was really good, but yer takin the piss a bit
As a wealthy white 18 year old living in the suburbs of Ohio..i feel extremely offended by this video and took it as complete, rude, and tasteless racism in the truest form
I think with the amount our (the American) media, comedy, and entertainment does to make fun of other cultures, this is quite acceptable. Dave Chappelle is a comedic god to me and he has done so much to make us feel more comfortable in making FUN of other cultures.
I for one am shocked by most of your comments. This was just a video of a funny lookin painted Asian dude singing like Louis Armstrong. What is wrong with this? Regardless of how offended you may be, our (American) culture would be the most popular in making fun of other cultures, I do believe, anyhow. I never hear anything back from those cultures we (Americans) make fun of. They take it with stride, as shall we (Americans).
Werr prayed…I roved dis vid a rot.
i don’t like when japs impersonate americans, especially great americans
Right before i shot him in the face i’d say “Herro!”
Apparently Japanese people did not get the memo about black face being ridiculously racist.
Ppl need to chill. It’s ok to make fun of Asians and their small wee wee but it’s all personal when other cultures make fun of us eh?
Sheesh, get over it.
heh… nice voice for a japanese
Anybody who found this racist is an idiot. A little overdramatic, yes, but it isn’t racist. As said before, the Japanese are one the most respectful group of people you will ever meet. It was a tribute, not an insult. Get off your high horses, uncork your heads from your asses, and get over it.
wow, this is beyond racist and just downright offensive to a huge degree. this is the most blatantly racist “tribute” ever and insulting to this nigger
didn’t think it was funny…but didn’t think it was racist…
I didnt think it was racist
however when he made his stupid ass facial expressions i felt like slapping a ho.
Robert Downey J.R does impersonate a black man. But not a DEAD,AFRICAN-AMERICAN LEGEND
Ok all you guys really need to chill, you just don’t like that fact that he’s Japanese because of what the Japanese did at Pearl Harbour
it wasnt racist. it was pretty good for a Jap. hard voice to impersonate.
i think it was great. it was funny and done in good taste. he did a good job on the make up and ment no harm in doing it.
most of you are dumb. i could go down the list and tell you all how you are wrong. but i dont have time. but here are a few stupid ones…
#21 john- ok you are only 18, you dont know shit about anything yet. plus no one care where you live or how much money you have. it has nothing to do with anything. you still have a lot to learn. i am sure you have laughed at a joke about the japs at least once.
and #14 BAS- if you have ever seen louis videos you would know that yes he did make the faces like that. this video was very close to the real Louis
you need to all lighten up, everyone needs a little humor in their life. laughing is good for you…try it someday
sar·casm (n)- A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule.
That is an era when music was music. It is nice to see the greats of music imitated. Tolerance is ruining this world.
dumb chink
Lol @ Nicolas Cage
So… If I wear a wig, a tight bikini filled with melons and start acting silly it’s an act of disrespect against Pamela Anderson and sexism towards the entire female gender, right?
I wonder what’s so special about a black skin that you’re not allowed to imitate it. A chameleon is going to get into a lot of trouble, these days, if he ever passes a black man.
