any 1 wanna help me proof read this? its an assignment i have in POpular music class, im not done yet but heres wut i got.
I have chosen the Self Titled Album Foo Fighters by the Foo Fighters. The band originally started as just a small project for Dave Grohl (lead singer and Rhythm Guitarist). During his time as the drummer in Nirvana, Dave had written many songs; though he decide not to share them as to not break the bound between the group.
When Kurt Cobain died, Dave was unsure if he should start a music career as a drummer, or backup drum for several groups. Although Dave was the soul writer of all the songs, he still managed to maintain the Nirvana signature tone of combining loud guitar rhythms and sweet vocal melodies. These songs were the start of the Foo Fighters band career. He decided to create a band as his career and after about 4 years they had their official lineup of the band today.
The Album is a collection of mostly past experiences, Such as ” Wattershed” which rants about sticking it to the man, in a teen sense. I would say that this album is a commentary of some of Dave Grohls life, and describing his feelings. This album is probably a pretty serendipitous event, because Dave was more know as the new drummer for Nirvana rather than a singer and guitarist. But he probably was able to sell the amount of copies that he did with his first album due to being in Nirvana.
My first song i decided to critique was “Wattershed”, this song has sort of a post-punk tune. The Rhythm guitar is fast paced, in a 4 beat per measure setup. The melody is quite simple to hum to, and is not a difficult song in many aspects. It kind of has more of an angry teen pump to it. There are four instruments, Lead guitar, Rhythm Guitar, Bass, and drums. The harmony vocals are quick and sharp pitched (unlike Nirvana).
The lyrics are like a teen stick it to the man song, as I had said in third paragraph. The song idea is about being kind of a rebel, and not caring what people will do if you do something not socially acceptable. In the pre-chorus the lyrics are ” Take that to the bank and call it a check, masked without a weapon.” I think it means robbing a bank, but the second part contradicts that. The verse all rhymes and then the chorus rhymes differently, but it follows that same rhyme pattern. Obviously this song is part of an album, not a single or a demo EP. I have seen videos of them playing this song live, and they always sing it as recorded and maybe speed up the tempo a bit.
My second choice is “Big Me”, this is a soft six chord tune, its quite easy to hum along to and sing with. It is four beats per measure. “Big Me” is a happy mood
